REST Trainer Gini Cunningham recently received the national spotlight, as the AARP recently featured her efforts to make the Winnemucca, Nev., area more age- and dementia-friendly.

The 2018 issue of AARP’s annual publication, Where We Live, featured a book Gini helped put together, entitled, “Age & Dementia Friendly Winnemucca and Humboldt County Project.”

Gini and other volunteers identified more than 20 “SMART Goals,” which focused on such needs as creating pleasant outdoor spaces, ensuring that people have transportation options, providing support for caregivers, and including older people in social events and community activities.

To document their work, and help other communities, Gini put together the book, which details every step of creating an age- and dementia-friendly community.  You can read more about their efforts on page 67 of the 2018 issue of AARP’s annual publication, Where We Live.  Download it here.
